Peggy Helms keeps Positive Outlook through Cancer Battle with help from Sherry’s Run
Battling cancer is a formidable task even with the strongest of support networks, and for 67 year-old Peggy Helms, it’s been the people in her life who have helped keep her spirit strong and her outlook positive – with some help from Sherry’s Run.
Peggy’s battle with cancer began in 2008, when a pap smear returned with abnormal results. She began chemotherapy treatment at the Sarah Cannon
Cancer Center and the Cancer Center at University Medical Center in Lebanon. She has worked part-time at Al’s Foodland in Lebanon for many years to
supplement her income and pay her bills, but the constant addition of medical treatments made keeping up even her simple lifestyle a daunting task.
Peggy’s health issues have made it difficult and sometimes impossible for her to do her job, and that’s when her landlord, Daniel Heath, recommended
she contact Sherry’s Run.
“Sherry’s Run is helping me financially now,” Peggy said, “and also they have made me have joy and peace again in my life.”
Peggy has extended family in the Middle Tennessee area and loves her job and co-workers at Al’s – a close-knit, Mom & Pop business, and she likes
discussing The Bible with her Christian friends. She has many reasons for joy in her life, which helps keep her spirit buoyant during the dark days of her battle against this debilitating disease.
“Reading my Bible and keeping God’s word in my mind and heart brings me joy,” Peggy said of her favorite pastimes.
Sherry’s Run began serving Peggy in March, and she has always expressed great appreciation for the funds she has received – and the blessings of
friendships made through the organization.
“It has been and is now a big battle to face,” Peggy said of fighting cancer for four years now. “But I have some great doctors helping and standing with
me. Sherry’s Run is helping me, and I have a great deal of respect for them.”
People in our community and beyond have an incredible giving spirit, and supporters of Sherry’s Run demonstrate that. In this spirit, that the Sherry’s Run organization is truly making a difference in the lives of those who are battling cancer. The funds raised go to help cancer patients like Peggy who are hurting and need help right here in our community.
